It will take us, it will shred us.
It will use us up, if we let it.
This world that we call our home.
This place we roam, always alone.
It drives us mad with its demands,
Driving us on, towards the summer lands.
Can we stop it? I think not.
We found out too late, what we have wrought.
Greed consumes the conscious mind.
Seeking always to devour the kind.
It knows all weak points, this you will find.
As it drags you down, and your mind does it bind.
Writhing tendrils of despair,
Rise up from such a ghastly lair.
They wrap around us, we do not care.
There is no point in crying unfair.
They cleave the mind, rend the heart.
Make us long to evermore depart.
The life we have, it grows so dark.
Yet Mirrors on the wall show truth so stark.
We are slaves to the hellish blight,
The creeping horrors of our world, a deadly plight.
There is no battle, we’ve lost the fight.
We surrender now, to madness in delight.
We pay steep prices, climbing ever higher.
Seeking more demands, the constant buyer.
Yet when time runs short and we begin to decay,
We long for youth, to laugh and play.
We see the truth we’ve long denied.
See the things from which we try to hide.
Beg and plead for just one more day,
But the darkness shrugs, no longer held at bay.
