It creeps through the shadows drawing us near.
Seeking to hold us closer, it’s touch will sear.
It fills us with triumphant joy,
But to it, we are naught but a toy.
We seek the darkness, long for its embrace.
Yet when we get it, too late, we’ve made a mistake.
There is no going back from the murky shade.
The light before us grows dim, it shall soon fade.
Stars come out, pinpricks of light.
Yet they are covered by clouds, lost to sight.
There is no way to see what has been done.
No way to right the hell that has begun.
Alone in the dark, not a soul around.
We shrivel and shrink, fall to the ground.
We shriek on our minds, yet lips make no sound.
For the darkness wishes, for us to be not found.
Pride brought us here, pride in our minds.
And with the black shadow, in chains it binds.
As if in a prison from which we cannot break free.
Locked in a tower, set far to the sea.
Yet in no far away land are we.
But in beds, in homes, in our hands the key.
The lock is shut tight, we shudder with fright.
At the hellish things, our minds bring tonight.
These are the things of which we all fear,
And in the shadows, the black things draw near.
