I chose to care, I chose to share.
More than I should, more than most dare.
It’s not been easy, realizing I’m close to you.
It was unexpected, It came out of the blue.
I planned to stay to myself.
Care for my children said I didn’t need anything else.
Yet I let you in, I don’t know how.
Not even when, or why even now.
I found myself caring more than I should.
Even if I knew it would be misunderstood.
In this world we live in, a good heart is used.
Mostly taken for granted, Far too often abused.
I started giving, something I rarely do.
My time and attention, It flowed off towards you.
I asked for nothing, and nothing I expect.
Anything more would lead only to regret.
I don’t do hookups, I don’t sleep around.
I keep to myself, stay down on the ground.
I simply seek to be enough.
Though what I offer, I know isn’t much.
So I keep it to myself.
Put it up on a shelf.
I smile and be a friend.
Even to the bitter end.
