Through the windows all that can be seen
Is gray concrete and silver steel.
Plastic in a rainbow of colors, stretching from here to there.
It’s enough to drive one to despair.
My heart sinks at the sight. And I remember child hood delights.
I let the memories carry me away, as in my mind I dance and play.
Through fields topped with gold, ready for the harvest now.
Fenced in with trees, the forests edge, a wave of green that to the distance stretched.
The rolling hills all just like waves, the cerulean sky with firey sun that dazed.
All of these I long for again.
With a fevered wish carried deep within.
As a youth I may have played, but I’ve grown and bills have to be paid.
Still I look at the concrete maze, and wish to be so far away.
What happened to the lovely world I knew then. Full of life and fairy glamor.
It’s transformed with a metallic clamor.
And with it took a piece of my soul
Someday I’ll reclaim it, that is my goal.
