Where Poems Fly, Through Starry Skies.

Times Ravages

I see a lake, filled with liquid diamonds
The dance of sun’s first light.
Mountains surround it, silent sentinels touching the sky
Their forest capped peaks spears held high.
Around the lake I see a bounty of life
Deers graze with young, the rabbits run about
Truly, a glorious sight.
There is power here, wild and free, found only among the trees.
Yet. I blink. And time flies by
And no longer do I see this before my eye.
Mankind has come, as its there way. Nothing holds them at bay
The mountains lay stripped, revealing bare peaks.
At this sight I begin to weep.
The green grass and forests are gone
At this sight I wonder just how long?
The lake, once glittering with dazzling light
Has become murky, a poisoned blight.
No fish jump here, snatching at flies
No birds pass by, nothing lives, all dies.
The power of the wild. That glorious force
Has abandoned this place, left only a fading ghost.
But perhaps there is hope to be found. Here in this barren ground.
The wild places may flee, but it shall not always be so
If one but sets in mind this goal.
They can return with a little help
If one does nothing else.
